Yes, it was one year ago that we had the legendary Roxy closing party and who would have thought that we will do another closing party a year later... The City of New York is taking the building away from the owners of Octagon/Stereo where our Work Party is held as a new subway station is planned at that location in the future....After months of having lawyers fighting for that building the decision was finally revealed, the building has to go! Work became the most successful Saturday Night Gay Party in New York after the closing of Roxy and we will definitely continue our Saturday Night at a new venue. I am currently looking at several locations and will announce shortly where the party will be moved to. I want to thank everyone of you for supporting WORK and believing in WORK and also for helping me keeping the New York Gay Nightlife alive in a way nobody thought it could happen again. Thanks also to all the great talented deejays who all contributed their love for WORK. Still, we could play the best music BUT without a great crowd (like all of you have been) the party would not happen and would not have evolved to what it became. I also want to thank everyone for all the amazing emails I got the last days and I am happy to see that there are lots of people out there who share the same vision as I do. I know the closing party came all of a sudden real unexpected but believe me we all tried hard until last week to get an extension to stay open for a couple of more weeks...but with no luck. I am a graduate student in the Counseling Psychology Ph.D. program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and my dissertation advisor is Dr. Lydia Buki. This study examines the experiences gay men and women have had coming out or not coming out to health care providers. Participation requires filling out an online survey. The survey takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. The survey is anonymous, meaning that your responses cannot be traced to you. Individuals who complete the survey can choose to be entered into a drawing for one of ten $25 cash prizes. Participation in this study is voluntary and may end at any time. In addition, you do not have to answer any questions you do not want to answer. Any individual may take the survey, and no person will be denied access to completing the survey. However, this survey is designed to gather the health care experiences of individuals who identify as same-gender-oriented (e.g., lesbian, gay). Participants who identify as bisexual, transgender, or intersex may feel that there are additional experiences that they have had with health care providers that are not asked about in this survey.
